Abstract

Homecare was conceptualised and operationalised during COVID pandemic. Mission was to provide eye care near all those who could not reach hospitals. A home visit by vision technician with portable equipment allowed record of visual acuity, refraction, intraocular pressure and anterior (modular slit lamp) and posterior segment images (nonmydriatic camera). An ophthalmologist connected with the patient on video call to give the final electronic report. This retrospective study will present the demography, disease spectrum and complete eye care among homecare beneficiaries.

Between November 2020 and July 2022, a total of 531 individuals sought Homecare services. Age range between 1month and 98 years. Females predominated (1:1.3) and elderly (>70 years) constituted 27.8% of patients. Of these 53% had eye disease in cornea and anterior segment, 22% glaucoma, 12% retina and 11% plasty and neuro-ophthalmology. Across all ages 58% received complete eye care and did not need a hospital visit.
