Abstract
Specialist eye care services are not accessible to most diabetics in rural areas.In the present study 10,008 eyes of 5004 known diabetic patients registered in NCD clinics were screened at CHC by trained PMOAs using nonmydriatic fundus camera.Fundus photos were uploaded on online cloud based software & graded by Ophthalmologist with Teleophthalmology.Prevalence of DR was 7.61% of these 12% had STDR. 381 DR patients were referred & managed by LASER/Intravitreal Injection.Study highlights the importance of use of Non-mydriatic fundus camera as easy,cost effective tool for screening of diabetic patients for DR at mass level,involvement of rural Govt Health facility staff at all levels,training of PMOA in taking fundus photographs,use of teleophthalmology,online software & android apps for data entry,storage,referral system & awareness about DM & DR.In order to tackle the rising problem of avoidable blindness due to DR in developing country like India such methodology can be streamlined.
