Abstract
Our purpose was to retrospectively study the features of milder than type 1 ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) and indications of treatment. Medical records of 232 infants screened for ROP were analysed. Thirty eyes of 16 infants diagnosed with milder than type 1 ROP, not progressing to type 1 ROP, with complete medical records were included. Features, morphology, staging and indications of treatment of infants with milder than type 1 were recorded. Twelve out of 30 eyes underwent treatment. Three eyes with type 2 ROP and 9 with mild ROP were treated. Out of 12 eyes, 3 were treated due to structural abnormalities (anteroposterior traction on retina, flat retinal fibrosis, vitreous hemorrhage) and 9 due to persistent ROP. Eyes with preplus disease were 2.33 times more likely to be treated. In crux, milder than type 1 ROP is unaddressed but often encountered scenario in ROP spectrum and we have tried to deal with the treatment ambiguities often faced in its management.
