Abstract
Stereopsis is highest grade of binocular function of eye, affected by age, refractive errors, amblyopia, anisometropia, strabismus etc. Astigmatism is a state of ametropia where refractive power varies in different meridians.Different types, axes & powers of astigmatism have varied effect on stereopsis. In 300 emmetropic individuals with normal anterior segment & fundus, astigmatism of 1D & 2D, for both myopia & hypermetropia was induced at 3 different axis i.e 0o, 45 o, 90 o & stereoacuity was tested. For Distant stereoacuity,Revised Frisby Davis distance stereotest & for near titmus fly stereo test was used.It was seen, stereoacuity decreases with increase in astigmatic power (p<0.001).It was most affected in 45o axis & least in 0o axis.Near stereopsis was affected more in hypermetropic than myopic astigmatism, while distance stereopsis is more affected in myopic than hypermetropic. Thus it is important to consider astigmatism while measuring stereopsis as it affects the quality of vision
