Abstract
AIM:To compare the safety&efficacy of subconjunctival inj MMC with sponge applied MMC during trabeculectomy.METHODS:A retrospective study where demographic data,IOP,pre&postop No of AGMs &postoperative complications were collected upto 3 yrs÷d into 2 grps,1-sponge(n =52),2-Injection(n=46).RESULTS:Mean preop IOP was 34.61±13.3mmHg& 33.07±9.6mmHg in grp 1&2 respectively, which reduced to 11.87±3.8& 12.67±3.8mmHg(6 months),12.15±4.2& 12.41±3.1mmHg(1yr),12.69±4.7& 12.20±3.3mmHg(2yrs)&11.43±3.2&11.59±3.2mmHg at final visit(P<0.001 in both grps)with no significant difference b/w grps.Mean No of preop AGM was 2.42±0.7&2.28±0.8 in grp1&2 respectively which reduced to 0.88±0.9(P=0.001)&1.19±1.1(P=0.405)at 3 yrs.Complete&overall success rates were 59.3%&78.8% in grp 1& 60.9%&80.4% in grp 2 at 3 yrs.Complication rates are similar in both grps&more intervention required in grp1. CONCLUSION:Subconjunctival Injection MMC was as safe and effective as sponge application with comparable outcomes
