Abstract
A 15-year-old female presented with bilateral central retinal artery occlusion. A systemic review revealed fever lasting for more than a week along with oral mucositis, a widespread polymorphous skin rash, desquamation and erythema over the hands and soles and cervical lymphadenopathy. A clinical diagnosis of classic Kawasaki disease was made as per the diagnostic criteria given by American Heart Association. Despite treatment with oral steroids and immunosuppressants, patient developed retinal neovascularization in both the eyes, which progressed despite an adequate pan- retinal photocoagulation. Kawasaki disease occurs predominantly in children <5 years of age and affects small and medium sized arteries. Presenting feature of bilateral nonpurulent conjunctivitis is one of the criteria for diagnosis of classic Kawasaki disease. We report a case of Kawasaki disease in an adolescent child with bilateral CRAO as the only ocular feature.
