Abstract
Blunt ocular trauma is known to cause retinal arterial and venous occlusions. Advancements in OCT technology has enabled us to identify subtle deep retinal ischemic pathologies like Paracentral acute middle maculopathy and Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy. Isolated deep retinal ischemia after trauma is not yet reported. Early (within 24 hours) imaging in a young male following trauma revealed Berlins edema clinically in left eye. SD OCT revealed selective hyper reflectivity of the outer plexiform layer with intact external limiting membrane suggestive of isolated deep retinal ischemia.
This is the first report of isolated deep retinal ischemia following blunt trauma.
Identification of this subtle condition has prognostic significance.
