Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate defocus curve and image quality metrics in eyes implanted with trifocal and EDOF IOLs.
Methods: A prospective study where subjects implanted with Trifocal and EDOF IOLs (Acrysof IQ PanOptix, Alcon; Acrysof IQ VIVITY, Alcon), aged between 40 -75 years, BCVA 0.2 logMAR or better was included. At 1 month post-op, monocular defocus curve obtained using logMAR chart, and internal HOA and MTF measured using HOYA i- Trace aberrometer were compared. Results: 87 and 18 eyes were implanted with trifocal, and EDOF respectively (age matched, P=0.46). Visual acuity with EDOF IOL was better at all defocus levels except at -0.5 and -1.0D. However the difference was not statistically significant across all defocus range. HOAs were similar with both IOLs (p>0.05). MTF was found to be higher with trifocal IOL at 15,20,25 (p<0.05) CPD.Conclusions: Defocus curves, internal HOAs were similar in both IOLs however MTF were better with trifocal IOL, this could be attributed to IOL design.
