Abstract
Background and Aims: Increased Time to diagnosis (TTD) is an important determinants of advanced retinoblastoma (RB).Interim analysis for TTD from ongoing study InPOG-RB-19-01, a prospective, multicentric collaborative study on RB in India is presented.
Methodology: Newly diagnosed patients with RB were enrolled. The TTD was subdivided into parent-lag and system-lag time. Epidemiological and clinical data were collected and analyzed .
Results: 698 patients from 18 centers were enrolled over a 23-month period. The TTD was < 3 months in 78%. Parent lag time was < 1 month, 1-3 months and >3months in 53%, 25% and 22% respectively. There was a significant correlation of increased TTD with stage (p<0.05) and distance from treating center.
Conclusions: Though vast majority of patients presented and were diagnosed in < 3months, there appears to be delayed recognition by parents. Early diagnosis efforts, should be directed towards community awareness and pediatric eye screening.
