Abstract
PURPOSE: To evaluate the visual & clinical outcomes of Cretan v/s Athens protocol in the treatment of progressive keratoconus.
METHODS: A prospective interventional study that enrolled 40 patients (40 eyes) with progressive keratoconus. Of which, 20 underwent Cretan protocol (50 micrometre-PTK f/b CXL) & 20 underwent Athens protocol (Topography guided partial PRK f/b CXL).UCVA, BCVA, flat and steep K readings & CCT were evaluated postoperatively.
RESULTS: In patients of Cretans protocol, the post-op mean K1 was 49.583 D, mean K2 was 54.217 D, mean CCT was 407.50 µm & mean BCVA was 0.60 at 6 months. In patients of Athens protocol, the post-op mean K1 was 44.117 D, mean K2 was 47.633 D, mean CCT was 363 µm & mean BCVA was 0.3833 at 6 months follow-up. Improvement in VA & flattening of K values were better in Athens protocol.
CONCLUSION: The clinical & visual outcomes of Athens protocol are found to be better in treatment of progressive keratoconus.
