Abstract

68 year old female with history of stent surgery a year back underwent cataract surgery. Her visual acuity improved to 6/9 at 1 week post operative period and dropped to 2/60 after a month. She was referred to retina clinic and on fundus evaluation showed mild temporal disc pallor and dyschromatopsia. Mri Brain showed optic chiasma glioma. Pateint was referred to neurologist for further evaluation.

Take home message :

Proper preoperative counselling of guarded visual prognosis in cases of hazy media view hindering the fundus examination is most essential for preventing the medicolegal issues. At the same time proper post operative fundus examination and investigations prevent the patient landing up on life threatening complications also.
