Abstract
This paper elucidates the role of Platelet rich fibrin(PRF) in facilitating tissue healing in surface reconstruction of contracted sockets. Autologous whole-blood following centrifugation, was processed to develop a three dimensional fine flexible fibrin matrix. This was utilized for surface augmentation in coalition with reconstructive surgery for volumetric correction of the socket in patients requiring both primary surface and volume restoration. Wound site was assessed and its healing was graded in all patients, on day 1 post op, at 1 month and at 3 months using the Wound Evaluation Scale (WES). At the final follow up visit, all the recruits showed satisfactory outcomes. PRF works as a reservoir for cytokine enmeshment, cellular migration and sustained release of growth factors. This study reveals that PRF can serve as a prudent physiological fibrin scaffold when employed for surface reconstruction by expediting the wound healing when compared to cases where it was not used.
