Abstract

We report a case series of 21 patients who presented to us with lid lacerations with or without involving canaliculi, with various kinds of hooks commonly used in daily lives such as-2 wheeler handle bar hook, cradle hook, blouse hook etc. We evaluated the surgical outcomes of these lid repairs with or without self retaining monocanalicular intubation.

A total of 21 patients of which 17(80%) were male,ranging from age 2 to 65 years were included in the series, from a period of March 2019 to July 2022 .Various parameters recorded were -mode of injury,time interval between injury and repair,associated ocular injuries, time of stent removal and lacrimal patency in cases of canalicular involvement.

Lid lacerations due to hook injuries are seen more commonly in young males.These repairs can be done successfully and have excellent outcomes if dealt within appropriate time .A little alertness and awareness towards these injuries amongst general public can prevent such atrocious consequences.
