Abstract
This is a retrospective, observational study of patient with acute BRAO or hemi-CRAO with FA and OCT at presentation between June 2017 to May 2022 . We compared the cases with and without retrograde filling of the retinal vessel. 39 eyes of 39 patients with acute RAO underwent FA and OCT imaging. 7 of the 10 cases with either BRAO or hemi-CRAO showed retrograde filling of the retinal vein on FA. No case with CRAO showed retrograde filling on FA. Those with retrograde filling showed a better presenting and final VA and less severe retinal ischemia on OCT. Shunts between the retinal artery in the unaffected region and the retinal vein in the affected segment was seen in 2 eyes. The remaining 5 eyes showed no AV anastomosis. Arteriovenous shunts or redistribution of the blood flow could be the probable reason for this FA finding, therefore the presence of retrograde filling of the retinal vein could indicate a better final visual prognosis.
