Abstract
In a prospective study of patients with fungal keratitis, the age, gender, history of injury were recorded. A detailed examination of the eye was done with a slit-lamp, size of the ulcer, depth of the ulcer were measured. Ulcers more than 3mm of area, superficial 1/3rd depth were included. A scleral contact lens of 18.5mm diameter filled with preservative free 0.5% natamycin was fitted, the lens vault was measured with AS-OCT. Follow up was done on day 1, day 3, 1 week, 15 days and 1 month.The visual acuity, size of the ulcer, blunting of the margins, re-epithelialization, reduction of anterior chamber reaction was noted at each visit. 3 patients (3 eyes) having Fungal keratitis diagnosed in the hospital were included in the study.The average size of the ulcer was 4mm (3-5mm).All three patients recovered completely with scarring of the ulcer by 1 month.BostonSight Scleral contact lens with an antifungal reservoir is an effective therapeutic approach for fungal keratitis.
