Abstract
In this study we report characteristics of cases with post fever retinitis with positive Weil Felix test. We noted demographic data, onset and duration of fever and findings of a detailed ocular examination. Results of OCT and FFA were recorded. Fifteen eyes of nine patients (8 males) are included in this study. Mean age was 39.1 years. Involved eyes had typical white retinitis patches and retinal hemorrhages. All were treated with oral doxycycline and prednisolone with resolution of lesions with mean BCVA improving to 0.35(range- 0.5 to 0.00) logmar units (p<0001) compared to presenting BCVA of 1.16. Two patients showed subretinal white lines in the area of retinitis with OCT showing hyperreflectivity corresponding to these lines. In one patient there was retinal nerve fibre atrophy along with a corresponding visual field defect. Many patients did not follow up after 3 months. Post fever retinitis due to rickettsia is being reported from our region for the first time.
