Abstract
Purpose: To report a case of granulomatous anterior uveitis with hypopyon in quiescent ulcerative colitis.
Results: A 31 year young male patient walked in to the emergency services with complaints of redness of his left eye since 5 days with no history of previous such episodes.
His visual acuity in the LE was HM+ve and the slit lamp examination revealed dense anterior segment inflammation with fibrin in the pupillary area, a streak hypopyon and a mysterious iris nodule at 5 o clock on the colarette. Multiple KP’s were adhered to the endothelium diffusely. The patients ocular condition improved rapidly after initiating topical treatment within one week and complete visual recovery subsequently.
Conclusion: Extraintestinal manifestations are known to occur in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) but anterior uveitis is sparsely reported in ulcerative colitis. This case highlights the rare presentation of granulomatous anterior uveitis with hypopyon in quiescent ulcerative colitis.
