Abstract
Phacocoele is defined as the dislocation of crystalline lens into the subconjunctival space after blunt trauma. (1) Biedner et al (2) coined the term “pseudo-phacocoele” for the subconjunctival extrusion of an IOL associated with blunt ocular trauma. We present a rare case of blunt ocular trauma in which foldable IOL was dislocated into the subconjunctival space with preserved integrity of bulbar wall and good visual outcome despite the severe ocular trauma.Several risk factors which favour phacocele include previous history of scleritis, low scleral rigidity, connective tissue diseases, previous surgical scars and long term topical medications. In our case, previous surgical scleral wound from cataract surgery may have opened and led to dislocation of IOL. Thus,a high index of suspicion for IOL dislocation into the subconjunctival space should be kept in mind while examining cases of traumatic aphakia post cataract surgery.
