Abstract
Corticosteroids are commonly used as anti-inflammatory agents in treatment of various ocular and systemic diseases and after various ocular surgeries such as for cataract, glaucoma, strabismus etc. It has been well known that corticosteroids produce ocular hypertension as one of their major side effects. . Use of steroids reduces the symptoms of the primary pathology, leading to a sense of betterment, which usually results in patients continuing to use steroids unmonitored over long periods of time. Children have been reported to be particularly susceptible to develop steroid-induced glaucoma. There are very few studies describing the ocular side effects of corticosteroids in children. Because IOP is less likely to be assessed routinely in children compared with that of adults, there is a need to better characterize the risk of steroid response in children. In this study, we describe the clinical profile and the outcome of ocular hypertensive response to steroids in children.
