Abstract
Aim:To study the effectiveness of botulinum toxin A in the treatment of patients with acute acquired concomitant esotropia due to excessive mobile and laptop in COVId era in pediatric and adolescents.Material and Methods:This was a retrospective, interventional, case series.22 patients with acute-onset esotropia in 2year period (2020-2022) were included.2.5 to 7.5units of BTXA injected into the unilateral or bilateral medial rectus muscle of the deviating eye .The main outcome measures were pre- and postinjection angle of deviation, pre- and postinjection stereopsis, final level of stereopsis achieved, and whether squint surgery was later required.Results .The mean age of patients were 7+- 4.5 yr.Six patient required surgery after botox injection.18 patients acheived stereopsis at first operative day.Conclusions: Botulinum toxin therapy has a definite role in the treatment of children with acute-onset esotropia. It may well obviate the need for squint surgery in all cases.
