Abstract
A cross-sectional study was done on 200 type 2 diabetics aged 40 years and above during 2019-2021. Glycemic control assessed by random blood sugar (RBS), glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c). Glaucoma screened by applanation tonometry, optic disc evaluation, gonioscopy and perimetry .Severity of glaucoma assessed by perimetry severity criteria. Patients with other systemic illness, ocular ailment and glaucoma other than POAG were excluded.
Mean duration of diabetes, mean random blood sugar and mean HbA1c were 5.28±3.49 years,228.43±62.85 mg/dl and 6.99±0.94% respectively. Prevalence of glaucoma was 10.5%. Mean IOP(Intraocular pressure) was 16.33±5.79 mmHg.Significant association found between higher IOP and longer duration of diabetes, higher random blood sugar levels, higher HbA1c value(p<0.001). Higher grades (severity) of glaucoma was significantly associated with longer diabetes duration (p =0.017), higher RBS (p<0.001) and higher HbA1c level (p<0.001).
