Abstract

Adenoid cystic carcinoma arise most commonly from salivary gland and Lacrimal gland. Case: A 53 year old female presenting with a history of diminution of visual acuity over the past one and half month which was sub acute in onset and was rapidly progressive leading to severe loss of vision. It was also associated with right sided headache and throbbing pain in the eye. On examination there was uniocular(right) axial proptosis, visual acuity was hand movements. There was right RAPD and restriction of ocular movements. Fellow eye was completely normal.MRI revealed enhancing lesion in retrobulbar area of right orbit indicative of optic nerve glioma of stage 2 and underwent orbito-zygomatic craniotomy with subtotal excision of mass.

Histopathological study shows tumor cells arranged in tubular pattern and cribriform pattern filled with hyaline material.

Post-op: After 3 days following surgery subject’s vision improved to counting finger 3 metres and extraocular movements were regained.
