Abstract
Aim-Miniplication is a new rectus muscle tightening procedure introduced for correction of small-angle strabismus.Through this study we report the outcomes of mini-medial rectus plication in small angle residual exotropia(XT). Materials and methods- We prospectively analyzed5 patients with a mean age of26 years who underwent mini-plication. In this procedure,6-0 polyglactin suture was secured to the central3-4mm of the muscle belly5mm posterior to the insertion and was then passed through the sclera just anterior to the muscle insertion to plicate the central portion of the muscle. Results- Preoperatively 5 patients had 10-16Δ (mean12Δ)XT. Final postoperative XT ranged from 2-8Δ (mean5.8Δ).The average correction by miniplication was 9(Δ). No complications noted. Conclusion-Mini-plication performed under controlled anesthesia is a safe ,simple alternative to prismatic glasses in residual small deviations and useful for adult with residual strabismus who don’t want to use spectacles.
