Abstract
This was a prospective, non-randomized, comparative study on 64 eyes (38 patients) of early to moderate glaucoma over a 1 year period to compare glaucoma progression on Visual fields (GPA), OCT (NFL thickness) and OCT Angiography (VD).
Results- There was significant correlation between VD and NFL thickness (rho=0.52, p=<0.001). 23 eyes progressed on OCTA, 18 on OCT and 14 on VF. There was significant association of progression on OCTA with GPA (p=0.002) and OCT (p=0.001). There was significant agreement between progression on OCTA and GPA (Cohen's Kappa=0.369, p=0.002) and progression on OCTA and OCT (Cohen's Kappa=0.394, p=0.001). Conclusions- There is clear evidence that vessel density declines in glaucoma and this decline appears to occur early than loss of nerve fiber layer. Thus, it appears that OCTA can pick up glaucoma progression before OCT and Visual fields, however this needs further validation with larger studies and longer follow-ups.
