Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the role of multi-level incision biopsy in orbital lesions. Method: Retrospective clinicopathological study of 169 patients who underwent multi-level orbital incision biopsy between March 2013 and July 2022. Results: Mean age was 41.2 years. Diagnosis was inflammatory in 101(60%) and neoplastic in 68(40%), of which 7(4%) were benign and 61(36%) malignant. Superficial biopsy missed the diagnosis in 9(5%) which was confirmed by deeper biopsy, of which 5 (7%) were neoplastic (p=0.014) and 4(4%) were inflammatory (p=0.02), thus altering the management in these cases. Deeper biopsy was concordant with the final diagnosis in all the cases. Conclusion: Multi-level incision biopsy with deep sampling through the epicentre of the lesion helps in determining the accurate diagnosis in orbital lesions.
