Abstract

Plexiform neurofibroma is the most common benign peripheral nerve tumor in eyelid and orbit. Orbitopalpebral neurofibromatosis can be progressive and debilitating form of the disease. Presenting signs and symptoms include eyelid swelling, ptosis, canthal dystopia and decreased visual acuity Surgical excision is generally complicated with excessive bleeding and may result in poor cosmesis. Repeated debulking may be necessary. There is a general pessimisim regarding outcome of eyelid remodelling. Extensive upper eyelid neurofibroma creates a functional and aesthetic problem which is inadequately addressed in the literature.

A tailored full thickness, transverse or transverse oblique resection of upperlid neurofibroma along with canthopexies and ptosis correction gives a functional and aesthetic benefit despite the progressive debilitating nature of the disease which will be demonstrated in this video.
