Abstract
Purpose: A basic protocol to clinically suspect, evaluate, diagnose and manage a case of ocular demodex infestation with a brief review of recent advances for management. Method: A case of 23 year old male with complaints of redness, itching and burning sensation presented to our institute. He has visited multiple hospitals previously and been treated with multiple modalities for blepharitis but not relieved. Clinically, cylindrical eyelashes were seen which on microscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis. He was then treated with tea tree oil home-based regime. Result: Patient’s signs and symptoms were significantly improved upon next follow up. Conclusion: One should suspect and examine the eyelashes carefully for demodex mite in refractory cases of redness and itching of eyes for prompt treatment and prevent the patient from discomfort of undergoing various experimental treatments.
