Abstract
Nystagmus is repetitive involuntary movements of the eyes. Evaluation of a case of nystagmus might seem like a herculean task even for experienced ophthalmologists. The key lies in being able to identify characteristic features that differentiate congenital from acquired nystagmus. Our video demonstrates exactly that. From detailed history to associated features and a thorough systemic evaluation, we show you how to approach a case of nystagmus in a simplified format. Most of these cases have gross retinal, optic nerve or neurological anomalies and evaluation can be challenging due to limited co-operation. Whether jerk or pendular, congenital or acquired, visually debilitating or not, every case of nystagmus deserves special care and attention. Appropriate management can help the patient have a better quality of life. With this video, we aim to provide a systematic approach to simplify the evaluation of nystagmus for budding ophthalmologists.
