Abstract
A 31-year old male with no perception of light presented with a dense 6.5mm*5.5mm central corneal scar in his right eye. There was stromal thinning and adherence of iris tissue to the cornea suggestive of sealed perforation. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (ASOCT) showed adherence of iris to 3.5 mm of central cornea with intact but sparse stromal tissue of 250 microns. A surface tattooing was hence planned using a tattoo gun machine and black tattoo ink. After epithelial debridement, ink was spread over area of scar and the gun was used perpendicular to corneal surface for 1 minute to drive the color into corneal stroma uniformly. This was repeated until affected corneal tissue appeared jet black. Excess ink was washed and BCL was placed. Post-operatively patient achieved good cosmetic correction. Locating the exact areas of corneal scarring, thinning, iris adherence using ASOCT and uniform tattooing using tattoo gun led to precise cosmetic correction of corneal scar.
