Abstract

Purpose:To emphasize the importance of Goretex suture in SFIOL in Nanophthalmic eye.

Synopsis: This video describes a case 56-year-old male,known case of nanophthalmos with history of both eye vortex vein decompression,left eye aphakic planned for secondary IOL.His Left eye vision was 1/60 improving to 6/36p.Patient was planned for customized scleral fixated IOL(60D) using Goretex suture(CV-8).Postoperatively vision was 5/60,IOP 15mmhg with stable SFIOL.Due to high risk of suture breakage in polypropylene suture over time Goretex suture was preferred.

Highlight:Goretex suture is a unique,microporous,nonabsorbable monofilament made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene(ePTFE).Owing to its is excellent handling,inert nature,reduced needle hole leakage,precise knotting,hydrophobic nature it is suitable for ophthalmic use in CV-8 suture size. In cases like nanophthalmos, where cataract surgery can become challenging,SFIOL with Goretex suture is a very good alternative.
