Abstract
Any ophthalmic surgery has the potential to surprise the surgeon with a sudden aggravation of systemic comorbidities. This may occur in spite of taking all proactive precautionary measures. It is a challenge for health care providers to take care of the geriatric patient undergoing ophthalmic procedure safely and efficiently in some unusual scenarios that include exacerbation of asthma, severe head nodding, positioning of obese, cervical spondylitis, kyphoscoliosis patients on table, anxiety or panic attack because of the surgical drape that covers patient’s face. These comorbidities place the geriatric patient at higher risk for surgical complications. The acquisition of skills to handle such unique situations is necessary so that the surgeon is ready to handle any difficult situation on the table when the need arises. This video aims to show the management of such unusual conditions in ophthalmology practice giving education and training input.
