Abstract
PURPOSE-
To study the prevalence of dry eye in patients with and without pseudoexfoliation
METHOD-
50 patients with and 50 without pseudoexfoliation having cataract visiting opd were considered. History and slit lamp examination was done. Tear secretion assessment done using Schirmer’s tests & TBUT
RESULT-
patients with Pseudoexfoliation 54.1% were in the age group of 60 – 69 yrs.60.2% were males & 39.8% eyes females. Schirmer’s 1 test 3.1% eyes had mild dry eye. Schirmer’s 2 test 6.1% had mild dry eyes.2% were in moderate category.TBUT 5.1% were found to be in mild category & 2% were in moderate category. prevalence of dry eye syndrome in patients with pseudoexfoliation was 8.16%. In the non pseudoexfoliation category 64% were males and 36% females. In schirmer’s 1 test 2% & in schirmer’s 2 test 4% had mild dry eye respectively. TBUT showed 2% had mild dry eyes. Prevalence of dry eye in this category was 5%
CONCLUSION-
Pseudoexfoliation patients are at a risk of developing dry eye
