Abstract
Cytomegalovirus is a double stranded DNA virus in the Herpesviridae family. Anterior uveitis is the hallmark of CMV infection in immunocompetent individuals. It usually presents as a unilateral acute recurrent hypertensive uveitis with few fine to large keratic precipitates which may be arranged in a linear or circular manner. CMV retinitis usually results from reactivation of a latent CMV infection when to host immunity falls.
There are three clinical forms: Typical (edemtous) form, Atypical (indolent) form and Perivascular form.
There may be associated vitreous haze. Diagnosis is usually clinical, however ELISA for immunoglobin assay in blood or PCR from vitreous or aqueous tap can also be used to confirm the diagnosis.
Here we discuss a small series of patients diagnosed with CMV retinitis and their treatment.
