Abstract
Introduction-The convention has always been about scheduling IOL implantation in a cataract patient, but what if the patient has coexisting uveitis?
Case report- A lady in her 20s presented to us with BCVA of OD-HM,OS-5/60.OD granulomatous pan-uveitis with cataract, who underwent OS cataract surgery and IOL
implantation under oral steroid cover 1 year back despite which the eye couldn’t be salvaged.Considering the GVP in OS post surgery, young age and the importance of preserving the better eye,a 2 staged protocol for management of the cataract was decided after a long term immunosuppression with oral Methotrexate and steroids over 8 weeks and 3 months of quiescence.Post-op,BCVA was 6/24.Patient on follow up was found to have minimal inflammation which was treated appropriately. After quiescence of 3 months,IOL placement was done as a 2nd stage procedure. Thus, despite advancements in management of uveitic cataracts,2 staged cataract surgery might be more helpful than 1 stage procedure.
