Abstract
Purpose: To report an unusual case of Bechet’s disease presenting as bilateral neuroretinitis.
Methods: A 37-year-old patient presented with right eye neuroretinitis; left eye optic disc pallor with resolving neuroretinitis. He had been earlier on treatment for pancreatitis, recurrent genital ulcers and oral ulcers. Fundus angiography showed perifoveal small venule vasculitis.
Results: His hemogram was normal, ESR was elevated, TPHA was non-reactive, tuberculin test negative, HIV non-reactive with normal chest radiography. Pathergy test was positive with 3 mm erythema and 1 mm induration while HLA B51 was negative. He was started on oral steroids along with immunosuppressive therapy. Both eyes disc edema resolved with left eye significant optic atrophy.
Conclusion: Bilateral neuroretinitis can be a rare manifestation of Bechet’s disease which often warrants immediate and adequate immunosuppression.
