Abstract
Aim:To evaluate the knowledge, attitude and willingness of the tribal population for eye donation in Northern Odisha. Materials and methods: A pretested semi-structured questionnaire on eye donation was given to 984 persons, patients as well as their attendants Data was collected and analysed using SPSS 26 software.Results: In this study 510(51.8%) participants were willing to pledge for eye donation. Males (55.9%, n=310), participants below 40 years of age (67.5%, n=290),participants with higher education status (76.8%, n=295) and urban population (88.5%, n=85) were more willing to donate eyes than the rest. Reasons for not willing to pledge were, 316(66.6%) need more information regarding eye donation, 116 (24.4%) thought family may not allow for eye donation and 40(8.4%) participants did not want to pledge due to religious disbelief.Conclusion: Multipronged strategies need to be adopted to increase the willingness for eye donation among less educated tribal and rural population
