Abstract
Aim:To compare the effect of audio-visual & verbal instructions on patient performing automated HFA.Methods:Prospective study of 120 patients,35-75 yrs with 40 participants in each grp with no previous experience of performing HFA.Two grps were given verbal instructions & 3rd grp was shown a standard video. A pre-test & post-test questionnaire were given.Result:Pts with glaucoma were, 72.50% in video,75.0% in strict verbal & 82.5% in lenient grp.MD in RE -3.38(-4.9 to 1.9) & in LE -3.96(-6.4 to -1.9). Reliable field was higher for video grp (47.5%) (p=0.033) & were more motivated (27%) (p=0.041). Video grp could perform the test better (40%) as compared to others (25% &25.5%). 85% patients in video grp felt instruction was helpful in performing the test (p=0.001),others (55.0% & 47.10%).Video grp (27.5%) were more relaxed compared to others (12.5% & 5.0%). Conclusion:Video instructed pts were more motivated & confident to perform the test more accurately with less anxiety and stress.
