Abstract
Purpose: To assess the rate of flat irregular pigment epithelium detachment (FIPED) in chronic and/or recurrent central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR).
Methods: Data of consecutive patients with chronic and/or recurrent CSCR diagnosed from January 2018 to July 2022 was retrospectively analyzed. All patients underwent OCT and presence of FIPED was noted. All patients underwent OCT angiography (OCTA) to detect choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in the area of FIPED.
Results: Thirty-one eyes of 28 patients (89% males) were included. The mean age was 47.7 years ± 8.8 years. The mean sub-foveal choroidal thickness was 393.6 μm (± 82.1 μm). FIPED was found in 22 of 31 eyes. OCTA detected CNV in the area of FIPED in eight of 22 eyes with FIPED.
Conclusion: FIPED was noted in 70.9% patients with chronic and/or recurrent CSCR. OCTA revealed CNV in 36.3% patients with FIPED. Role of CNV in pathophysiology of chronic and/or recurrent CSCR and role of anti-VEGF agents need further research.
