Abstract
To find the association of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG),
Intraocular Pressure and Systemic hypertension. A Prospective Observational study was conducted on 200 patients
with Systemic HTN attending Out Patient Department. POAG evaluation protocol was conducted on all the study subjects. The obtained data was analyzed using SPSS. The study done in 200 patients of HTN in a tertiary eye care centre showed that POAG is most common in M>F. Maximum incidence of POAG in HTN patients is 60-69 years. Prevalence of POAG in HTN patients is 4% in this study. The Mean SBP is 145 mm of Hg, the Mean DBP is 90 mm of Hg and Mean IOP in RE is 21.50 mm of Hg and in LE is 22.75 mm of Hg in POAG patients. As IOP is the modifiable risk factor for POAG only 5 out of 8 patients with POAG showed high pressures while remaining 3 patients showed optic disc changes pertaining to POAG.Screening for POAG in HTN patients along with regular monitoring of IOP and BP aids in early diagnosis.
