Abstract
Aim: To compare long-term outcomes of IVB with combined IVB/intravitreal Traimcinolone acetonide in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Method: A prospective study was done on 50 eyes with wet AMD visiting tertiary eye centre from July 2021 to June 2022. Group A (25 cases) received 3 consecutive injections of 1.25 mg/0.05 ml of bevacizumab, 1 month apart. In group B (25 cases), 4 mg/0.05 mL of TA was added to bevacizumab in first injection; rest were IVB only. BCVA and OCT were done at baseline and at follow-up visits.
RESULT: Mean age was 60.25±4.50 years. BCVA improved and CMT reduced in both groups at follow-up visits but IVB/IVTA was statistically more effective than IVB alone in improving BCVA and reducing CMT after 12 months. Average number of reinjections was 1.75±0.82 in group A and 1.05±1.01 in group B.
CONCLUSION: Synergistic effect of intravitreal TA and IVB for treatment of neovascular AMD is evident most apparently after 8 months of follow-up.
