Abstract
Purpose:To determine clinical presentation of cases with Retinal Detachment(RD) requiring Scleral buckling (SB), postoperative visual acuity improvement, complications and need for re-surgery.
Methods:A retrospective study was conducted in Retina Department of our Institute of patients undergoing SB surgery from years 2016 to 2021 with minimum follow-up period of 3 months,by collecting data from the Electronic Medical Registration system.Postop BCVA,complications and re-surgeries performed were noted.
Results:297 eyes of 281 patients were studied. 72.60% patients were males.14.14% of cases had history of trauma.5.72% of eyes were high myopes.9.76% had Macula on RD.Most common predisposing lesion seen was retinal hole(10.10%).Significant improvement was seen in the 3rd month postop logMAR VA. 6.40% cases developed Re-RD.Cases requiring re-surgery did not show significant postop VA improvement.
Conclusion: SB remains an effective means of intervention in cases of RD in the era of MIVS.
