Abstract
Aim- To screen the diabetic patients for presence of diabetic retinopathy and to assess their knowledge attitude and practices on diabetes and diabetic retinopathy. Methods: its a hospital-based, cross-sectional study, over a period of 6 months from Jan 2022 to June 2022. 85 diabetic patients, who fulfilled the inclusion criteria, were included in the study. KAP of patients was assessed using a questionnaire. Patients were grouped according to their knowledge, attitude and practices regarding DM and DR and data were analyzed. Results: Out of the 85 patients in the study, 62% had retinopathy. 45% had good knowledge about diabetes, but only 8 % had good knowledge about retinopathy. Good knowledge and awareness about DM and DR was positively associated with the attitude towards DM and the practices regarding DR. Conclusion: Good knowledge and awareness about the disease can help to prevent sight-threatening complications of it which was significantly poor among the patients in our study.
