Abstract
Purpose-To determine the correlation of occurence of refractive error(RE) among Siblings
Method-Cross sectional analytical -Pilot study conducted among consecutive 321 probands of under 16 yrs and their 353 siblings.
Results-The mean age in yrs in Proband is 10.35 D and in Siblings is 8.48 D. The mean spherical equivalent(SE) among Probands and siblings is -2.35 D and -0.5D respectively. Using Spearman correlation formula, the correlation of RE among brother-brother and sister–sister is 0.25 (p value 0.045) and 0.26 (p value 0.022), which are statistically significant. Whereas, the correlation among brother– sister is 0.11(p value 0.171) not statistically significant. Using Generalized estimating equation regression model, the coefficient of change in SE is 0.04 D (p value 0.045) indicating positive correlation.Conclusion-This study indicates that the correlation among siblings of same gender is statistically significant and among siblings of different gender is not significant
