Abstract
Aim-To assess the outcome of autologous fat grafting (AFG) at a tertiary eye-care center.
Method-Retrospective analysis of patients who underwent AFG between January 2019 and March 2021 was done. The fat graft was harvested from the lower abdomen under general anesthesia. The post-operative assessment was done on post-op day 1, 4th week, and 6th month. Result-The study included 9 females and 8 males. The mean age was 29.2 years. The most common indication for AFG was volume augmentation in contracted socket (n=9, 52.9%), followed by correction of residual enophthalmos in orbital fracture (n=4, 23.5%). The mean volume of fat injected was. Fourteen cases had successful aesthetic outcomes at a mean follow-up of 34.5weeks; two cases needed repeat AFG harvesting. Conclusion-AFG is a minimally invasive method for volume augmentation in anophthalmic or microphthalmic sockets. It is a good filler for residual enophthalmos after orbital fracture repair and post-traumatic facial deformities.
