Abstract
Aim:To describe the clinical features and management outcomes of orbital and adnexal sarcoidosis. Methods:A retrospective study of 21 histopathologically proven orbital and adnexal sarcoidosis over the past 10 years. Results:The mean age of the study population was 47.7 years with a female preponderance(n=17).Five patients had bilateral involvement. The most common presenting feature was periorbital swelling(n=16) and proptosis(n=5).Incisional biopsy was done in 16 patients and excisional biopsy in 5 patients.Histopathology showed non caseating granulomas in all.Mediastinal lymphadenopathy was seen in 11 patients.Twelve patients received oral steroids of which 5 required additional oral methotrexate.Three patients were observed and six were lost to follow up.There was no recurrence on follow up.Conclusion:Orbital sarcoidosis can present as an eyelid, lacrimal gland, extraocular muscle or discrete orbital mass.Histopathology, CT chest and blood investigations help clinch the diagnosis.
