Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the surgical outcome of horizontal strabismus surgeries for 2 years.

Material and methods: A prospective study of 22 eyes that underwent horizontal strabismus surgery. The mean age, sex, diagnosis, diplopia, surgery, anesthesia, adjustable sutures and follow-up time from surgery were analyzed. A good outcome is considered when the final horizontal deviation was less than 10 PD after 6 months of surgery.

Results: The follow-up was up to 6 months. Out of the 22 eyes,13 had esotropia and 9 had exotropia. A total of 26 muscles were operated on: 15 medial, and 11 lateral recti 14 recessions, 7 resections, and 5 plications were performed. complications were severe hyperemia in 30% of cases scleral perforation was noted in 1 case. The comparison of the difference in visual acuity between pre and post-operation showed no statistical significance.

Conclusion: The surgical success rate was 70% with no significant visual acuity improvement.
