Abstract
AIM –To find out different types of convergent squint in patients attending tertiary care centre.
METHODS –It was a prospective observational study done on 98 patients who suffered from esotropia. Detailed history, retinoscopy, ocular examination and squint examination was carried out in all patients.
RESULTS –There was slight female preponderance with majority of them presenting during first decade of their life. Almost 84% of them had gradual onset squint with family history in only 8.5% of patients. Amblyopia was found in around 30% of patients with most common refractive error being hypermetropia and hypermetropic astigmatism. Around 41% of patients suffered from refactive accommodative esotropia. Most common etiology of esotropia was found to be uncorrected refractive errors in 38% of patients. Majority of patients responded to glasses. CONCLUSION- It is important to screen children for any underlying refractive error or squint in order to prevent permanent visual damage.
