Abstract
Purpose: To assess the prevalence of various types of Esotropia in a tertiary care eye hospital in South India. Also to compare the outcomes after management of Infantile Esotropia and Accommodative Esotropia in terms of stereoacuity and angle of strabismus over a period of 5 years. We shall also discuss if early surgery holds any benefit in Infantile Esotropes.
Methods: Retrospective study of computer records over 5 years will be analysed. Onset of strabismus, time of first presentation, treatment and outcomes will be scrutinised. Outcomes shall be measured in terms of strabismus (consecutive or residual) and resulting stereopsis. We shall also discuss if early surgery holds any benefit in Essential Infantile Esotropes.
Result:Out of 758 esotropes, there were found to be 11 diagnosed with essential infantile esotropia (1.45%), 123 diagnosed with Accommodative esotropia (16.23%) and 82.32 % with acquired esotropia.
