Abstract
METHODS:A retrospective study of children presenting with uveitis from 2015-2022. Anatomical & etiological classification of uveitis with complications were noted. Patients were treated with topical steroids/antibiotics, systemic steroids, immunosuppressants, intravitreal injections, laser therapy and surgeries for complications.
RESULTS:1000 eyes of 687 children were studied(Mean age- 11.67 ± 6.30 years, males-58.37%). Majority of the eyes had posterior uveitis(41.04%)with most common etiology as infection (48.1 %) and toxoplasma (22 %) being the commonest. Commonest complications were RD (10.63%) and macular scar (10.04%) Majority of the patients were treated with systemic steroid(47.02%) followed by methotrexate(13.39%) and most common surgeries- cataract(10.77%) and vitreo-retinal surgeries(8.73%)
Conclusion:To the best of our knowledge this is the largest study describing uveitis in paediatric age group with toxoplasma as the commonest infectious agent.
