Abstract
Purpose:To analyse the efficacy of unilateral slanting recess-resect in the management of convergence insufficiency type of alternate exotropia.Method:Records of 14 patients who underwent unilateral slanting recess-resect for convergence insufficiency type of exotropia were retrospectively analysed.
Result:The mean pre op near – distance disparity(NDD) was 12.143+/- 2.568 PD(Range10-15PD).All patients had undergone recess-resect on the non-dominant eye with total amount of slant ranging 1-3mm.There was a significant mean reduction of 8.43PD in Near- distance disparity with post operative mean NDD 3.57 +/- 4.041(p-<0.001).The mean follow up period was 4 months (range1-6 months). There was a weak positive correlation (Pearson coefficient:0.06) between amount slant and amount of collapse in NDD(statistically not significant). Conclusion:Unilateral slanting recess-resect safe and effective in the management of Convergence insufficiency type of exotropia to collapse near-distance disparity.
